EPISODE #66: An End to Upside Down Thinking

Thursday, December 6th ~ Mark Gober – An End to Upside Down Thinking

Mainstream scientific thinking say that we are conscious because of our brains. In other words our brain creates our conscious experience. But did you know that science has no idea how a brain could produce a mind? An End to Upside Down Thinking argues that consciousness doesn’t come from the brain at all. Rather consciousness is more fundamental than physical matter. Implications are that we all have psychic abilities, that consciousness doesn’t die when the body dies, and that we are all connected.

Mark Gober is an author whose worldview was turned upside down in late 2016 when he was exposed to world-changing science. This science suggested that contrary to mainstream assumptions, consciousness is not produced by the brain. After researching extensively, he wrote An End to Upside Down Thinking to introduce the general public to these cutting-edge ideas – all in an effort to encourage a global shift in scientific and existential thinking.

Mark is a Partner at Sherpa Technology Group in Silicon Valley, a firm that advises technology companies on mergers & acquisitions and strategy. He previously worked as an investment banking analyst in New York. Mark has been quoted for his opinions on business and technology matters in Bloomberg, Businessweek and elsewhere, and he has authored internationally published business articles. He graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University, where he was captain of the tennis team.

EPISODE #63: New VIBE App Takes Personal Evolution to the Next Level

Thursday, November 15th ~ Steve Sekhon – New VIBE App Takes Personal Evolution to the Next Level

In the current sea of mindfulness apps, meditation has become synonymous with mindfulness, but meditation alone, is not a reasonable path to a more mindful life. One must also take the critical step of learning and integrating the fundamental principles of living a mindful and fulfilled life.

The Vibe app fills this gap by connecting users with leading authors and thought leaders in mindfulness. App users choose their preferred “thought leader” who will provide them daily guidance in core fundamentals of mindfulness and spirituality, offering a framework upon which they can build our own inner truths. Other mindfulness apps offer support for meditation, while the Vibe app provides the building blocks to help us actually realize, connect with and deepen our spiritual, mindful selves.

After nearly 35 years of meditating, soul searching and personal inquiry, Steve Sekhon collaborates with Jarl to write daily messages that explore what it takes to live joyfully in peace. Their approach combines an understanding of psychology, metaphysics, the western mystical tradition and Eastern practices. He draws from his earlier incarnation as an international urban planner when he worked in Cambodia, Bosnia-Herzogovina and Southern Sudan, experiences that helped him to realize that each person is fundamentally free to make choices regarding his own perception and interpretation of events.

EPISODE #62: Dream Analysis

Thursday, November 8th ~ Layne Dalfen: Dream Analysis

Dreams reveal the solutions to your problems and understanding the language gives you the power, comfort and flexibility in how you decide to react to a person or a situation. Dream analysis is an incredible opportunity to escape your repetitive and tired responses that you may have been accustomed to from childhood. Layne will discuss her method which not only helps dreamers uncover why they had that dream last night, but more importantly what a solution looks like when it comes in the form of a metaphor.

Layne Dalfen founded The Dream Interpretation Center in Montreal in 1997. She has been a lecturer for the Counselling students at Concordia University in Montreal since 2005. Her interest in dreams stems from her early experience in Freudian analysis where dream work was the primary tool. She later studied at The Gestalt Counselling and Training Center Certificate Program in Montreal, and Adlerian principles with Dr. Leo Gold of The Alfred Adler Institute in New York. She has been a member of The International Association for the Study of Dreams (IASD) since 1997, and was a Board of Directors member from 2005-2009.

Combining insight from Freud, Adler, Jung and Perls Gestalt Physchology, her focus is introducing the general public to the value of decoding their dreams. She does this by teaching easy-to-grasp ideas about how to uncover the solutions to our current issues that appear in our dreams every night.

She has appeared on over 150 radio shows across America and has been featured on numerous TV networks. Layne has written articles for magazines both in Canada and The US. Layne is also well known at Rancho La Puerta Spa in Mexico.

Layne has two book, Have a Great Dream: Book #1; The Overview: Decoding Your Dreams To Discover Your Full Potential and Have a Great Dream: Book #2; A Deeper Discussion: Decoding Your Dreams To Discover Your Full Potential. These two books show you how to analyze, evaluate and map your own dreams for the clues that will truly set you free, and bring you closer to what you really desire in life. Oftentimes, you are stuck in a situation because you are continuing to react based on the beliefs and habits that were instilled in you from childhood. Lifelong patterns are your default behavior. This is often your “shadow” side holding back out of fear. But your dreams show you new possibilities—new ways to respond—that would never have occurred to you under the old paradigm, opening you up to your full creative expression–unlimited by past repetitive constructs. Thus, as you reach for and act on these new alternatives, you can discover and experience your true and full potential.

EPISODE #61: John E. Fetzer and the Quest for the New Age

Thursday, November 1st ~ Brian C. Wilson: John E. Fetzer and the Quest for the New Age

John E. Fetzer was a pioneer broadcaster who brought the first radio station to southwest Michigan in the late 1920s. An excellent businessman, Fetzer made millions and was listed in Forbes magazine as one of the 400 wealthiest people in the United States. However, the most interesting thing about Fetzer was his life-long spiritual search, which led him to an exploration of a variety of metaphysical religions culminating in the New Age. The result of his search was that Fetzer used his wealth to found the Kalamazoo-based Fetzer Institute and the Fetzer Memorial Trust to further his spiritual ideas.

Join us as author, Brian C. Wilson, discusses his book on John Fetzer. Brian is a Professor of Comparative Religion at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. His areas of research and teaching include American religious history with an emphasis on new religious movements, metaphysical religions, and religion in the Midwest. Author of numerous books and articles, his previous book, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and the Religion of Biologic Living, was awarded the 2015 National Silver Medal for Biography from the Independent Publishers Association and the 2015 State History Award from the Historical Society of Michigan.

Brian’s new book is titled John E. Fetzer and the Quest for the New Age. The Kalamazoo-based Fetzer (1901-1991) was a radio pioneer, media mogul, and long-time owner of the Detroit Tigers baseball team. Of his many pursuits, however, there is one that is not well known: his life-long spiritual search, which led him from traditional Christianity to an exploration of a variety of metaphysical religions culminating in the New Age. In many ways, the story of John Fetzer’s long spiritual search mirrors that of millions of Americans who sought new ways of thinking and being in the evolving metaphysical religions of the 20th century. By placing Fetzer’s spiritual development within the broader context of metaphysical religions in America, Wilson’s book demonstrates how typical was his search for an American of his time and place. This was especially true in the Midwest, which, despite conservative “heartland” myths to the contrary, was long a hotbed of metaphysical and alternative religious activity. Yet, Fetzer’s story is also important because of its distinctiveness, for, unlike the rank-and-file, he was a figure of wealth and social prominence who founded the Fetzer Institute and the Fetzer Memorial Trust, which continue to carry on his spiritual vision to this day.

EPISODE #60: Love, Faith and a Pair of Pants

Thursday, October 25th ~ Herb Freed – Love, Faith and a Pair of Pants

Herb Freed, author of the timeless love story, Bashert, returns to the page with a collection of short stories about the smart, witty, spiritual and, according to Ben’s mother, incredibly handsome, Rabbi Ben Zelig. In five anecdotes about a rabbi’s life, Zelig navigates romance, family ties, colorful congregants and the meaning of faith. Freed extracts from his own experience to weave a colorful and universal tale of life, love and spirituality. In a time where humanity is constantly put to the test, Freed takes readers from humor to pathos and back again in an uplifting examination of what it means to be human.

Herb started his adult life as an ordained rabbi and became the spiritual leader of Temple Beth Shalom in Lake Mahopac, New York. Eventually, he resigned his pulpit to become a movie director. He has directed and produced 15 feature films most of which have had psychological, spiritual and/or social themes in spite of their commercial categories. He is best known for Graduation Day and Tomboy, as well as the taut thriller Haunts, and Child2Man, a story of survival during the Watts riots.

His new book Love, Faith and a Pair of Pants. Ben Zelig thinks he has his life entirely planned out. Graduate from rabbinical school. Get hired by a spiritually enriched community. Meet a nice Jewish girl and start a family. Simple, right? Naturally, nothing ever goes according to plan, but life can still work out as long as you have LOVE, FAITH AND A PAIR OF PANTS

EPISODE #59: The Three Rooms: Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life

Thursday, October 18th ~ Kevin Murphy – The Three Rooms: Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life

The premise behind The Three Rooms is simple, but profound. It explains that our experience of life is not based on what we have or what we do, but rather, it is based on what we think, and our thoughts can only be in one of three places: the past (Past Room), the future (Future Room), or the present (Present Room), and whichever room your thoughts are in determines your experience of life in that moment.

Kevin Murphy is a former Wall Street managing director, high school and collegiate wrestling champion, community activist, speaker, coach, and author of the book The Three Rooms.

During his highly successful 33-year career at Citigroup, Kevin was responsible for the sales, marketing and trading of several different businesses within the firm. He served on the Board of Directors of multiple option exchanges and spoke at conferences all over the world. Kevin currently serves on the Board of Directors for Cboe Global Market’s six U.S. securities exchanges.

Following his college wrestling career, he has served as a youth wrestling coach on Long Island for over 30 years. His lifetime service to the sport of wrestling led to his induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2009. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the non-profit Friends of Long Island Wrestling, and has spear-headed a campaign to raise awareness of the opioid and drug epidemic that is sweeping the country.

These experiences have given Kevin a unique and eclectic mix of understanding human nature. He noticed that our happiness and unhappiness in life is always the result of our thoughts – whether observations of the present, memories from the past, or projected fears about the future. Combining this theory with the deep personal insights he attained along his own 20+ year spiritual journey, Kevin stepped away from the corporate world to write the book The Three Rooms, in which he explains how observing which room your thoughts are in, can change your experience of life.
